War in Cities

In 2022, Marwa Charmand was commissioned by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to contribute to the War in Cities exhibition, a national touring project highlighting the humanitarian impact of urban warfare. Her installation combined portraiture and visual storytelling to humanise the experiences of civilians living through conflict, amplifying voices often absent from mainstream narratives.

The exhibition toured nationally, with key presentations in Canberra, Brisbane, and Melbourne. 

This project marked a defining moment in Marwa’s practice, bridging her personal heritage and creative vision with international humanitarian dialogue, and demonstrating the power of art to preserve stories, foster cultural understanding, and inspire change.
